Microsoft OneDrive: Update for Unlicensed Accounts

The practice began on January 27, 2025. To ensure a secure deployment and allow administrators sufficient time to adapt, the release has been slowed down. Administrators should expect that completing the enforcement process for all unlicensed accounts will take time. The initial enforcement phase will be completed by October 29, 2025.

Timeline for unlicensed accounts before July 28, 2025September 26, 2025: By this date, all unlicensed accounts will switch to read-only mode. Administrators are advised to perform their checks after this date. Checking earlier may result in a snapshot of an incomplete state.

October 29, 2025: By this date, all unlicensed accounts will be archived. Administrators are advised to perform their checks after this date. Checking earlier may result in a snapshot of an incomplete state.

Timeline for unlicensed accounts after July 28, 2025After July 28, 2025, an unlicensed account will be switched to read-only mode on the 60th day of being unlicensed, and it will be archived or moved to the recycle bin on the 93rd day.
