With Office 365 Customer Key, users are given the opportunity to check their own encryption keys to encrypt data. This way the customer key is taken under control so key cancelation or deleting data operations can be done in order to make data indecipherable. Because the Customer Key is set over service encryption, customers can have an additional protection layer on BitLocker and a more detailed control level on Office 365 as well. Also, in cases of having data loss risks like losing the keys or in case they get stolen, it provides a rescue key which is a strong spare key model to ensure data integrity and usability.
